Last week there was a dance for the grown-ups at church. I volunteered to make cupcakes, and was told they wanted "over-the-top" decorations on the cupcakes. The dance had a Valentine's theme, but I couldn't really think of a good way to decorate cupcakes for that. Really, I'm not very creative when it comes to decorating cakes or cupcakes. Then I remembered seeing a couple of different ideas on blogs, and decided to use them.

Granted, they aren't traditional Valentine's decorations, but I figured that since flowers are a big part of Valentine's Day, and when you are in love you get butterflies in your stomach, they would work. Maybe I am just looking forward to spring!
The inspiration for the butterflies came from
here. I simplified them somewhat. Of course the ones on the blog I got the idea from turned out much better, but these worked for what I needed them for. I went with red since it was for Valentine's. The idea for the flowers came from
D's cousin's blog. Again, I simplified them. Hers are much more beautiful!
I was happy with the way both turned out, and they got raves at the dance. It turns out most of the other people just put a few Valentine candies or sprinkles on the top for their cupcake decorations, so mine were the most over-the-top. It was a few hours work, but it was fun!
